ABSTRACT: The North Atlantic right whale Eubalaena glacialis is endangered, in part, due to vessel-strike mortality. We use vessel traffic and right whale survey data (~3 nautical miles [n miles], ~ km resolution) for the Bay of Fundy and on the Scotian Shelf (northwest Atlantic) to determine the relative risk of lethal vessel encounters by using 2 estimates: (1) the event—the relative. About the Bay of Fundy. The coastlines along the Bay of Fundy include many exposures of rock, including cliffs up to about m ( ft) high. The Bay of Fundy mineral localities are typically exposed rock the base of the cliffs themselves, and also some large rock falls where cliff sections have collapsed onto the beaches.

Like other areas off Canada's east coast, the Scotian Shelf suffered a collapse of its fisheries during the s. Haddock and cod were caught . The Bay of Fundy is divided into six Scallop Fishing Areas (plus a seventh area outside the bay) and three distinct fishing fleets. The “Full Bay” fleet consists of 99 large vessels, ranging in size from 45 to 65 feet ( to metres) and licensed to fish in the entire Bay of Fundy throughout the year.

Some scientists argue that harnessing tidal power from the Bay of Fundy could have a harmful impact on Atlantic lobster, among other marine species. File photo by The Associated Press Baseline data gaps questioned. Fisheries and Oceans Canada has critiqued FORCE's EEMP, arguing that the baseline data is insufficient. That didn't stop Nova. These are farmed fish, a legacy of the aquaculture boom that dominates many coves in the outer Bay of Fundy and throughout the Maritimes. Ironically, as these "domesticated" salmon have prospered and multiplied, the populations of their wild, free-roaming kin have plunged alarmingly towards the brink of extirpation in the Northwest Atlantic.
